David Knight EVO 8 MR RS

David has a long history of track days and recreational motorsport in EVO’s, but he had his heart set on getting more serious. His starting point was just about as perfect as you could ever hope for, an exceedingly rare EVO 8 MR RS. Coming from the factory with a tried and tested RS rear end, short ratio gearbox and basic no frills interior it was intended for Group N use.

Starting with a bare shell the car received a multitude of lightening measures before fitting a very extensive roll cage. Along with David’s wishes the first step was to concentrate on the chassis, power is nothing without control after all! This would allow for David to progress his driving skill and to learn the limits of the chassis without the distraction of a big turbo throwing him at the horizon! The chassis improvements began with our Tubular Rear Subframe, Rear Camber & Toe Arms at the back, along with our Tubular Front Subframe & Adjustable Front Arms. These are complemented by the superb Intrax Coilovers at each corner and updated electronics in the form of a Pectel ECU and a Motec CDL digital dash.

After a few months in this specification David then decided to address the engine side of the project, starting with a in house built, fully forged 4G63, we then added a Ross Sport GT30HTA Turbo kit providing very both fast throttle response from low revs, and a screaming top end combining to create brilliant drivability.

David has only completed one test session with this new powerplant to date, but it has all the makings of a very competent and searingly quick race car!
